The 4th Infantry Division took part in the second wave of the initial invasion of Normandy, landing at Utah Beach at approximately 0630 on 6 June 1944. With little German resistance compared to Omaha Beach, the division quickly gained control of the beach.
When Third Platoon reached the coast, their Platoon sergeant "Mac" went out looking for the division in half an hour after the landing.
